Itching to Travel

29 Sep

If you read my Twitter or Facebook, or you’re one of my friends in real life.. you may think I’m traveling all the time or busy every weekend.  Yes, I’ve done alot this past summer- Maine, Vermont, CT, NY Maine again, etc. Yes, I have plans to go to NY for a wedding and Vermont for a long weekend in the near future.

Yet, I have this huge itch to travel. I really want to go away–on an airplane. Somewhere warm with white sand, blue water, and beautiful sunsets. Somewhere I can relax, read, swim, get a tan, enjoy the warmth, take a zillion pictures, learn something new, experience a new culture, relax and just be on vacation.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to the Bahamas, British Virgin Islands, Florida, Finger Lakes, Las Vegas, North Carolina, Cancun, and multiple road trips. I’m not being deprived of travel experiences, I just want to do it again.

Life After College has suggestions on “Are you Living for a Vacation?” The tips are really insightful and great. However, she has a vacation planned (if I loved yoga, I would be extremely jealous). I would love to even plan a trip and then start to do research — read reviews, blogs and what-to-dos.

I have vacation days left, money saved, summer clothes still not packed away in hopes of going somewhere warm in the near future. I’m ready. Travelocity, Kayak, Gate1Travel, Orbitz, TravelZoo are email on a daily or weekly basis. The ads on any website I look at are all targeted towards me and my vacation. It’s like I’m taunted every day about a vacation.

What’s stopping me? Well, me.

I’ve never traveled alone nor do I have any desire to.  I love experience things with other people. My closest friends won’t be taking any trips in the near future. They’ve gone away this year already. My parents went on trips last year (one given as a gift by yours truly) and they can’t go away come winter season. My brothers even work on weekends.

So what’s a girl to do? Travel alone? Just plan for 2011 or 2012? Pop this bubble and get over it? Take the vacation days and just have a “stay-vacation”?

Blogging- love it, overwhelmed, exciting, busy, etc, etc

16 Sep

So I have a blog. My friends have blogs. My company that I work for has a blog. PR experts have blogs. Social Media experts have blogs, widgets, RSS feeds, Share This Buttons, etc! Companies are engaging with their customers and they have multiple blogs.

There are moms who blogs, brides who blog about their weddings, pet owners who blog about the pets, picture blogs, people who blog about hobbies, people who blog to display their beautiful work, dieters who blog about weight loss, diets and exercise, blogs to share secrets, politic blogs, travel blogs that show the world,  blogs that talk about blogs

It’s a BLOG world out there.

I love it. There is always something to read, something to learn, something new. It’s connecting a writer to millions of people to share his or her thoughts. It’s a source of tips, a story to laugh or cry at, a lesson to learn.

However, it’s overwhelming. I have 122 blog subscriptions. Can I read them all? Absolutely not. Do I want to? Does the Unread/Bolded Items nag me to “read me”? Can I un-subscribe? How do I keep up? How do I learn when there’s so much to learn? Can I just look at the pretty pictures?

Well, that’s part of blogging. It’s the same as life.

On vacations, I really love to read.  I recently went to the library (best idea ever– very underutilized!) I sat back and looked at all of the books in the paperback section. I looked at these books as a world of opportunity. There were so many to read, just sitting, waiting to be checked out and read.

Blogging is like that. There is so much out there. There is so much to learn, read and checkout.

So readers- any suggestions on what you’d like to see or what I should be looking at? I see no problem in bumping up my subscriptions and maybe even adding a blog roll, so you can really see how I think!

26 years

15 Sep

Dear Mom & Dad,

I know the chances of you finding this are slim– well Mom did just get Facebook, so maybe not so slim now. I wanted to congratulate you on your 26th wedding anniversary! You two are great role models and I couldn’t thank you enough for all the parenting, good examples, crazy moments and love that you’ve given us three.

I hope that when I’m your age, and married for 26 years, I’m as happy, funny and in love as you two are. You’ve been amazing parents and I’m so lucky to have both of you and live up to your example. Thanks for all the life lessons and for showing what true love is.

Love you!

P.S. This blog post serves as a card, gift, cake, party and expensive cruise.. You got it all at 25! just kidding…

That Summer List…

14 Sep

So how I do for my summer list? Here goes:

Sunset harbor cruise. We went on a sailboat named Hestia one Friday night. It was an amazing experience. I’ve been on Boston Harbor cruises but this was much more personal- only seven people on the sailboat. We went from the Long Wharf into the North End, Charlestown, under the Tobin Bridge, turned around in Chelsea/East Boston and went across the harbor to the Seaport district and came back in seeing the Boston Harbor Hotel. It was such a nice night for it (full moon) and the weather was perfect. There was even a dog onboard!

Finally hike Blue Hills. I watched Tina run her 1/2 marathon at Blue Hills. Even though I didn’t get to the top, we still walked about 6 miles that day, all before 10 am.

Attend a couple of weddings!! I got to see my sorority sisters, Robyn and Jess, get married to start the summer off. They were both beautiful brides and it was so fun to see all my sisters in one place. Of course, singing heaven too!

Weekends at Dover-Foxcroft, ME. I got to go to the cabin for two weekends! As you know, we spent Labor Day weekend in Maine as well as went up in August. It’s so peaceful. We went canoeing, swimming, fishing, read and just relaxed near Sebec Lake. Some pictures:

Weekends at Sebago Lake, enjoying family at the cottage! I was also able to spend some time at the cottage at Panther Pond, which connects to Sebago. I went for July 4th with the family, a weekend with my parents and Chris and then a crazy weekend with lots of friends. Pictures (before sunrise & lake view):

July 4th celebrations. This July 4th was different in so many ways. We traveled yet stayed home, saw fireworks in both the South Shore and in Boston. Best part of the 4th- listening to the Boston Pops on the radio while watching the fireworks from a new “secret” spot overlooking Boston.

Have a pool day. Yes! I actually took a couple of separate days and just relaxed by a pool. It was great to swim and be in the sun. I wish I had more of those days! Thank you to Kelly who took a vacation day too and just enjoyed acting like we were teenagers again– ordering food and swimming all day :)

Richardson‘s on a Friday afternoon after work. I drive by Richardson’s everyday, it was only a matter of time before I eventually stopped for an ice cream. I went a very long time-6 months!- without even thinking of stopping. Then on a Friday sunny afternoon, I enjoyed an ice cream cone. It was delicious! If you go, please splurge and get chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream– it’s the best!

Have a girls weekend with the Revere girls. We weren’t able to sneak away an entire weekend but Jen, Kelly and I were able to have a few nights this summer seeing each other, catching up and just enjoying ourselves. Our neutral favorite new spot- On the Border in Woburn. Eventually we have to do a girls weekend :)

Go to a drive in movie. It was amazing. We saw Salt & Dinner for Schmucks, had two sodas, a large popcorn… all totaling= $21.  You can’t beat that! It was an amazing sunset and great experience! We went to Pride’s Corner Drive-In Theatre in Westbrook, Maine. Salt was great, Dinner for Schmucks was funny if you like “The Office” humor

See the Red Sox! Because of a miscalculation (wrong date), I was lucky enough to go to TWO Red Sox Games. Nothing beats a beer, Fenway Frank and two wins from the home team!!

Relive my middle school days and saw the Backstreet Boys. Saw them. Realized I’m old. They weren’t bad. Enough said!

Country Concerts- I saw Lady Antebellum & Tim Mcgraw in concert this summer at the Comcast Center in Mansfield with Tina, Berns, Marissa, and others. Tailgating and the lawn were fun:

Revere Beach Sand Castles: It was a great date! Kelly and I walked the beach and saw this year’s sculptures. I wish I had pictures!

Restaurant Week in Boston. This summer we tried Sportello for Restaurant Week. The food and wine was so fresh, so different, amazing. I highly recommend it!! If anything, try the spicy tomato soup!

Celebrate Tina, Berns & Cat’s 24th birthday! My college best friends, Cat, Tina & Berns all turned 24 within one week of each other. Last year, they did a trio-birthday, so why not continue it this year? I got to see so many sorority sisters and it was fun to celebrate another birthday! We had a private room at Bell-in- Hand (Boston’s oldest bar) and danced the night away.

Go fishing, yes really, I want to catch a BIG fish and did I ever!! Pictures are worth 1,000 words.. ten minutes and the result of my fish vs. Chris. They were both thrown back! Someone spent a couple days continuing to fish…

Learn something new & interesting each day. I truly feel that I learned something new or interesting. I love to read (finished multiple books this summer) as well as increased my blog roll. It was definitely a learning summer!

What I didn’t get to:

*Spend a day at the Harbor Islands or  do the Boston Harbor Walk* Deer Island walks this summer * Find an apartment! *Explore the South Shore *Run, learn to love it and make it part of my daily life!* North End Feasts * Explore the South End * Have a beach day *Go tubing or waterskiing again * Ride on a motorcycle

and overcome the loon fear!

Looking back, it really was busy and fun summer. It had its highs and lows but overall, it was a great way to spend summer ’10.

It’s September officially

13 Sep

So it really is September. No more 4 day work weeks, no more vacations to the lake. It’s back-to-school time, time to get more buckled down with work, time to get ready for the Fall activities, times for weddings to start up again for us. Time to be busy, busy, busy.

I know- It’s September 13th and I’m writing this. It’s the first time I feel that it’s real. I’m wearing a turtleneck today and have a full week of things to do. I’m back to having soup for lunch and apples in the house. Chris went back to grad classes today too.

What’s in store for this fall? I still have to recap my summer list & I do have a Fall list too! Some apple picking, hiking (yes I haven’t done that yet), weddings- Leah’s, Heidi’s and Janine’s, Halloween parties, football games, birthdays, Vermont, and the attitude to try new things.

Happy Fall! Here’s to another exciting New England season

Last weekend of summer

3 Sep

So my Maine post was a somewhat of a lie. I will be returning back to the Vacationland state for one more last time before the “official” end of summer.

We’re heading up to Dover-Foxcroft for the weekend. It will be VERY different from the last weekend and the lake (quieter, fewer people, phone service doesn’t work!) It will be a great way to close out summer 2010.

We’re bringing some great friends (college roommate and another alpha phi from another college…love her), picking up some Maine lobsters and even hiking, if the rain doesn’t last all weekend.I can’t wait to finish some books, play cards and have one last sitting around the fire night.

I’m even look forward to the traffic… Can you tell I’m excited?

Happy Labor Day Everyone!
