If you read my Twitter or Facebook, or you’re one of my friends in real life.. you may think I’m traveling all the time or busy every weekend. Yes, I’ve done alot this past summer- Maine, Vermont, CT, NY Maine again, etc. Yes, I have plans to go to NY for a wedding and Vermont for a long weekend in the near future.
Yet, I have this huge itch to travel. I really want to go away–on an airplane. Somewhere warm with white sand, blue water, and beautiful sunsets. Somewhere I can relax, read, swim, get a tan, enjoy the warmth, take a zillion pictures, learn something new, experience a new culture, relax and just be on vacation.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to the Bahamas, British Virgin Islands, Florida, Finger Lakes, Las Vegas, North Carolina, Cancun, and multiple road trips. I’m not being deprived of travel experiences, I just want to do it again.
Life After College has suggestions on “Are you Living for a Vacation?” The tips are really insightful and great. However, she has a vacation planned (if I loved yoga, I would be extremely jealous). I would love to even plan a trip and then start to do research — read reviews, blogs and what-to-dos.
I have vacation days left, money saved, summer clothes still not packed away in hopes of going somewhere warm in the near future. I’m ready. Travelocity, Kayak, Gate1Travel, Orbitz, TravelZoo are email on a daily or weekly basis. The ads on any website I look at are all targeted towards me and my vacation. It’s like I’m taunted every day about a vacation.
What’s stopping me? Well, me.
I’ve never traveled alone nor do I have any desire to. I love experience things with other people. My closest friends won’t be taking any trips in the near future. They’ve gone away this year already. My parents went on trips last year (one given as a gift by yours truly) and they can’t go away come winter season. My brothers even work on weekends.
So what’s a girl to do? Travel alone? Just plan for 2011 or 2012? Pop this bubble and get over it? Take the vacation days and just have a “stay-vacation”?
Help!
